Varco Pruden Buildings – Delivering Long-Term Value to Farmers
For more than 60 years, agricultural business owners, ranchers, farmers, facilities managers and construction specifiers have relied on Varco Pruden (VP) Buildings to provide effective and affordable building solutions.Agriculture has been one of the company’s key market categories since its inception. VP Buildings provides steel building solutions for all types of agricultural facilities. From barns and equipment buildings to animal breeding buildings and hay storage facilities, VP Builders are well equipped to provide design and construction solutions for agricultural structures.
The newly constructed Judge William P. Clark Livestock Center is a perfect example of VP builders’ agricultural work. Located at the Ventura County Fairgrounds, in California, the 40,950 square foot center was built to replace the old structures, which were damaged by years of salt sea air.Dedicated to Ventura County’s livestock community in the name of Judge William P. Clark, a great cattleman and rancher whose family was among the pioneers who built Ventura County, the center houses and cares for privately owned horses, goats, pigs, sheep, steer and poultry.
The new livestock center accommodates approximately 500 animals during the Ventura County Fair. The center adds a country look to the fairgrounds and offers exhibitors the facilities they need to present their animals in a safe, clean and welcoming environment.Activities of the Ventura County Fairgrounds and its annual Fair are rooted in the traditions of farming and agriculture. The livestock center is used for the annual Ventura County Fair Jr. Livestock Program and for livestock shows throughout the year. Also on the grounds is the Ventura County Animal Regulation evacuation center, which serves as an animal evacuation center for animals during times of natural disaster. The Judge William P. Clark Livestock Center offers extensive opportunities to Ventura County youth in 4H, FFA and Grange programs to exhibit the fruits of their labors as they showcase the animals they have raised and auction them as a part of their year-long educational agriculture programs.Since the building was located so close to the ocean, all of the frames and secondary members were hot-dipped galvanized and then painted to provide protection from the corrosive salt spray environment.
The structure, which was built using VP’s top-of-the-line SSR™ standing seam roof system (Galvalume™) and VP’s Panel Rib™ wall system in Cool Colonial Red, was constructed by Vernon Edwards Constructors based in Santa Maria, Calif. and designed by PMSM Architects based in San Luis Obispo, Calif. VP’s Rigid Frame systems were also used in the construction of the facility, which allows ideal flexibility in interior space utilization.
