Beefalo Cattle
Beefalo Cattle
Posted on 01 September 2010
Beefalo are a fertile hybrid offspring of domestic cattle, Bos taurus, and the American bison, Bison bison (generally called buffalo in the US). The breed was created to combine the best characteristics of both animals with a view towards beef production.
Beefalo are primarily cattle in genetics and appearance, with the breed association defining a full beefalo as one with ⅜ (37.5%) bison genetics, while they call animals with higher percentages of bison genetics "bison hybrids".
Hidden Lake Farm
| Operation Descritpion: | Our farm produced the first fullblood Beefalo bull born in the state of Michigan. We now have a selection of fullblood and percentage Beefalo breeding stock available for sale or lease. We also have registered Beefalo meat animals for sale. The diet of our Beefalo consists primarily of grass pasture and hay. We use no chemical fertilizers, pesticides or growth implants. |

Bold Venture
| Operation Descritpion: | The best reason I can give for this interest is that we used a fresh new approach emphasizing the results cattlemen could achieve by infusing bison genetics into their herds. As part of that approach, we created the term “Bison blend” to describe these cattle, keeping us from being relegated into a stereotypical classification of “Beefalo, Cattalo or Hybrid” breeders. |
