Charolais Cattle
Charolais Cattle
Posted on 01 September 2010
Charolais cattle are a beef breed of cattle (Bos taurus) which originated in Charolais, around Charolles, in France. They are raised for their meat and are known for their composite qualities when crossed with other breeds, most notably Angus and Hereford cattle. The breed tends to be large muscled, with bulls weighing up to 2,500 pounds and cows up to 2,000 pounds.
Characteristics
Despite their relatively northerly origin, Charolais tolerate heat well, and show good weight gains on even mediocre pasturage. The coat is almost pure white.

Davis Charolais
| Operation Descritpion: | We have been raising quality Charolais cattle ever since, and are continually changing to produce the best. In the 1980's, we began using the Redman Linear Measuring System, a method to select and produce cattle based on measurements taken from the animal. The results led to some big changes to the herd, mainly culling for undesirable traits and breeding to bring out the best traits, such as gainability and easy calving. We continue to use this method today and it has been instrumental in our success to produce cattle that are easy keepers, big gainers and have good dispositions. |
