Equipment Notebook - Air Compressors

Hot air isn’t generally welcome on a farm site – unless it’s compressed and ready to go to work! Here are the details on sales of a few used air compressors that will help you know where to land when you bid on a used unit at an auction.

A wide variety of different brands of air compressors were reported sold over the past year and prices varied nearly as much as brand names.

Air-Master was the brand of 6HP ELE compressor sold at auction in Wisconsin in April 2009. It was said to be in good condition and brought $450.

Three different Atlas compressors were reported sold. Two of the models were XAS-97-JD and both were listed as 185CFM described as in good condition. They were sold at the same auction in North Dakota in July 2009. One went for $4,000 and one for $5,000.

The third Atlas was a 1996 XAS96 185CFM with 1,756 hours on it. It was also described as in good condition. It sold in Minnesota in July 2009 and brought $8,400.

The Black Machine air compressor listed as a 2004 60GAL unit in good condition brought $300 at a Texas auction in December 2009.

Four Campbell brand compressors were reported sold in Texas in 2009. One sold in May was listed as a 60GAL in fair condition and sold for $375. A twin tank Campbell described as in good condition brought $300 at an October Texas auction.

The 1989 100GAL Campbell said to be in good condition brought $560 at a November 2009 auction. The fourth Campbell unit was a 2,000 45GAL described as in good condition. It had a gas engine and brought $325 in Texas in December 2009.

A Devilbiss upright air compressor sold for $525 at an Iowa auction in July 2009. The unit was said to be in good condition and was a 6.5HP 80GAL.

The Hitachi dual tank reported sold in Texas in November 2009 was said to be in good condition. It brought $650 at that auction.

A total of nine Ingersol-Rand air compressors were reported sold in 2009. The cheapest model was a 1991 5.5HP said to be in good condition. It sold in Oklahoma in November 2009 for $475. A 5HP 80GA: Ingersol-Rand brought $525 at that same Oklahoma auction. It was also described as in good condition.

The 2000 30GAL Ingersol-Rand sold in Texas in March 2009 was described as in good condition and went for $925.

The 80GAL 5HP Ingersol-Rand sold at a Texas auction in May 2009 was described as in excellent condition and brought $1,000. A 1990 Commercial Ingersol-Rand sold in Texas in August 2009 went for $1,700. It was said to be in fair condition.

A 250 Ingersol-Rand described as in fair condition brought $2,000 at a Minnesota auction in April 2009. A 185 said to be in good condition brought $3,200 at a different April 2009 auction in Minnesota.

The 375 Ingersol-Rand sold in Minnesota in August 2009 was described as in good condition. It brought $3,400 at that auction.

Sullair was one of the brands of air compressors reported sold. The 185 that was mounted on a trailer and said to be in good condition brought $3,000 at a December 2009 auction in Nebraska.

A Titan air compressor listed as in excellent condition went for $500 at a May 2009 auction in Oklahoma.

Two US Motor air compressors were reported sold in 2009. The 1998 80GAL tank described as in good condition was sold at a Texas auction in May 2009. It brought $375.

The 60GAL US Motor air compressor sold in Texas in April 2009 netted $400. It was described as in good condition and was operated by an electric motor.
