Equipment Notebook - Irrigators

Irrigators throughout the Midwest got a break this summer with all the heavy rains that have blanketed many areas. When it comes to used irrigation equipment, Row King leads the pack in terms of irrigation piping. All the Row King piping sales in this report took place in Texas.

In Texas at a November 2009 auction, 16 JTS of aluminum Row King piping 8x40 brought $304. A December auction in Texas saw 21 JTS of 4x30 aluminum piping sell for $322. At a March 2010 auction 25JTS of aluminum Row King piping sold for $350. Thirty JTS of Row King piping sold in Texas in March also brought $350.

In February 2010, 16 JTS of 8x30 aluminum piping sold for $416. Forty JTS of Row King aluminum piping, 7x20, sold in February 2010 for $500. The 19 JTS of 8x30 aluminum piping sold in February brought $570. The 28 JTS of Pipe Gate, 20x6 aluminum brought $644 in January 2010.  The 58 JTS of aluminum gated pipe sold in December 2009 brought $667.

At a March 2010 sale, 60 JTS of Row King 6” and 7” gated piping sold for $750. In February 2010, 70 JTS of 6x20 gated aluminum piping sold for $770. The 42 JTS of 8x30 aluminum piping sold in November 2009 brought $798. The 1980 40 JTS of 3x30 aluminum piping sold in December 2009 went for $1,000.

In February 2010, 43 JTS of 8x30 aluminum Row King piping brought $1,118. The 80 JTS of 20x7 aluminum piping sold in January 2010 went for $1,120. Another 60 JTS of 20x6 gated piping sold in January 2010 for $1,200.

The 64 JTS of Row King 10x10 aluminum piping sold in Texas in November 2009 brought $1,280. In February 2010, 45 JTS of 8x30 aluminum piping sold for $1,593. Another 46 JTS of 8x30 piping went for $1,748 in December 2009.

The 102 JTS of Row King 20x7 pipe sold in March 2010 brought $1,834. Another 102 JTS of 4x30 aluminum piping sold for $2,448 at a December 2009 Texas sale. The 131 JTS of 8x30 Row King aluminum piping sold in February 2010 netted $3,995.

Two GSI irrigation pumps were reported sold at auction over the past years. They were both sold in Minnesota in June 2010. Both were in good condition and were fertilizer injectors. One brought $2,100. The other sold for $2,250.

Three Case pumps were reported sold in Texas. One was sold at an August 2009 auction for $1,000. It was said to be a D TA in good condition. The other two were sold in January 2010. Both were D engines on a stand in good condition. Each brought $3,000.


Two Caterpillar engines were reported sold in November 2009 in Texas. Both were D engines on a stand. One brought $300 and the other sold for $450.

The Deutz D 913 reported sold in Illinois in December 2009 brought $600. It was described as in fair condition. Several Ditchwitch engines were also reported sold over the past year. The 2310 said to be in good condition brought $1,200 at an Ohio auction in November 2009. The A610 D in fair condition sold for $2,700 at an Indiana auction in September 2009.

The Ditchwitch sold in Texas in August 2009 was a 1994 1620 G Walk Behind in fair condition. It brought $3,000. The R40 said to be in good condition went for $3,150 at an October 2009 sale in Minnesota. The JT920 Boring with 787 hours Direct Drill sold for $13,600 at a December 2009 auction in Iowa.

A John Deere 4310 irrigation engine on a stand brought $2,000 at a February 2010 auction in Texas. A second John Deere 4310 at the same auction brought $2,950. Both were said to be in good condition. The 4310 on a stand that sold in Texas at a February auction, described as in good condition. Brought $3,300.
The 1997 4T10 D John Deere irrigation engine on a stand, in good condition, sold in Texas in March 2010 for $3,000. The 1998 PE4045T D on a stand sold in February 2010 in Texas went for $3,800. A 1998 PE4045T D on a stand sold in February 2010 in Texas for $4,000. It was also described as in good condition. The 5030 John Deere G surge tank described as in excellent condition sold at a May 2010 auction in Oklahoma. It brought $4,750.

The highest-priced Case IH engine reported sold over the past year was a 2003 4931T with 2,255 hours. It was on a stand and brought $3,650 at an April auction in Texas. The highest-priced Ford engine reported sold was a 460 on a stand, good condition, that brought $700 at a Texas auction in January 2010.
