NSF International and USDA Co-Host 2010 Food Safety Education Conference in Atlanta

Experts Available to Discuss Hot Topics in Food Safety

WHAT:

NSF International, a not-for-profit public health and safety organization, is co-hosting the 2010 Food Safety Education Conference with the USDA March 24-26, 2010 in Atlanta, Georgia. An expert in food safety, NSF is a third-party certifier of the global food supply. NSF is supporting this conference and its mission to prevent foodborne illness and to protect consumers through new food safety education methods.

The conference, “Advancements in Food Safety Education: Trends, Tools and Technologies,” will include food safety experts from both NSF International and the USDA, as well as other key regulatory organizations including the FDA, CDC and the World Health Organization. Together they will discuss key topics in the industry including causes of foodborne illness. Additional topics will include realities of a global food supply, food allergy trends, food safety in classrooms and social media and virtual gaming for food safety education and awareness.

NSF International experts including President and CEO Kevan P. Lawlor; Vice President of Supply Chain Food Safety and Quality Tom Chestnut; and Senior Director of Regulatory Affairs Stan Hazan will be onsite and available to participate in LIVE and PRE-SCHEDULED interviews to discuss the following:

  • The Food Safety Bill – Expected to hit the Senate in early April, NSF can discuss what this Bill could mean for consumers, producers, retailers and distributors.
  • Emerging Threats to Food Safety – NSF can discuss the trend of microbiological outbreaks showing up in nontraditional or unexpected places.
  • Food Traceability – NSF can discuss best practices that food manufacturers and producers should follow to ensure accurate reporting.
  • Global Food Safety – NSF can highlight trends on how to better address the safety and quality of the expanding global food supply.
  • Consumer Tips – As part of NSF’s mission to protect public health, NSF has developed key tips, which provide information on a wide array of food safety and other public health topics.
